We are a small, family run plant nursery, established over 100 years ago, operating from two sites in Hadrian’s Wall Country.
The first seeds were sown, literally, way back in 1921 at our West Heddon Nursery, which is about 1 mile north west of Heddon on the Wall.
Within the surrounds of the old walled garden of Heddon House, we carry a wide range of trees, shrubs, fruit bushes, roses, garden sundries and compost. These are all available alongside a wide range of herbaceous perennials, seasonal bedding and young vegetable plants which have been home grown at our nursery at Ovington.
Although a smaller site, Ovington boasts a wider range of perennials, all grown on site, alongside some impressive Herbaceous borders which are in the process of being rejuvenated. In the very early years we started specialising in Dahlias and Chrysanthemums, producing well over 100,000 plants annually in over 400 different varieties.
Each year, we trial several varieties sent from amateur breeders, evaluating them to see if they are worthy of including in future catalogues. These can all be seen in our flower fields at Heddon, planted alongside over 15,000 other Dahlias and Chrysanthemums which attract visitors from all over the UK and occasionally beyond! They are a must-see spectacle of colour when they are in full flower from late August until the first frosts.
