Terms and Conditions for Ordering

This web site is owned by W N Hall and Sons Ltd, trading as Halls of Heddon. VAT No. 397 5053 61. For over 100 years we have continued to supply plants and service to our customers to the high standard instilled by our founder, William Nicholson Hall, in 1921. Please read these terms and conditions carefully as they also give details of delivery periods and of the plant size on offer- e.g. mini plants, tubers etc. If you wish to place an order please use the PRINTABLE ORDER FORM.

This can then be emailed to us at orders@hallsofheddon.com please leave card details blank if emailing, we will contact you for payment details using the telephone number provided. We aim to do this within 10 working days of receipt.

You can also post your order form to us at Halls of Heddon, West Heddon Nursery, Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland, NE15 0JS. We accept cheques and postal orders made out to W.N.Hall & Sons Ltd or card details can be provided for payment. If you are not comfortable sending card details via post leave space blank and we will contact you using the telephone number provided.

IN ALL CASES WE REQUIRE PAYMENT WITH ORDER PLEASE. Credit cards will be debited on receipt of order. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Switch and Delta

WE REGRET WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT TELEPHONE ORDERS.

All orders will be acknowledged, via post or email, generally within 7-10 days. Please check that we have your details recorded correctly to ensure you receive your plants safely. Quoting the acknowledgement number on your posted confirmation will help us deal with any correspondence and enquiries more efficiently.

GUARANTEE

All plants are propagated from stock grown on our nursery and assessed regularly for health and being true to variety and form. To ensure your plants reach you in the best condition we aim to deliver plants within one day of dispatch by using Royal Mail Tracked 24 service. Tubers are sent Royal Mail Tracked 48 service with the aim that they will reach you in 2-4 working days from posting. We guarantee to replace or refund in full the cost of any plants should they fail to satisfy on arrival, providing we are notified within 7 days of receipt so an agreeable solution can be arranged. Beyond this we can in no way accept responsibility for growth, production or crop. If we don’t know you have a problem, we can’t resolve to put it right.

It has come to our attention that some of our export customers are using postal hotels to forward their orders. Please note that this will invalidate our guarantee and we will not be liable for any failures in plant survival or delivery. This is due to the uncertainty in delivery time and the non-compliance with plant health requirements which could see the parcel destroyed at point of entry. We also add additional packaging for parcels knowingly sent out of the UK to protect from the colder temperatures seen in aeroplane holds.

RETURNS POLICY

Your rights to return goods are protected under the EU Distance Selling Directive. You are entitled to cancel your order within 7 working days for a full refund including cost of delivery. This can be done by contacting us by e-mail or phone quoting the order number given to you. Your refund will be paid within 30 days. If you have changed your mind and decide you no longer want the goods then you alone are responsible for the cost of return postage. We cannot accept responsibility for the cost and risk of loss or damage when returning so we advise taking out adequate postal insurance.

SUBSTITUTES

We reserve the right to substitute a similar alternative in the event a variety is
unavailable at the time of despatch, unless specified as ‘No Substitutes’ on the
order form. We will always try to match the variety as closely as possible. Please
indicate whether flower colour OR variety classification is the priority for
substitute choice. Orders where ‘No Substitutes’ is selected may result in delayed
despatch or incomplete orders, with varieties to follow at a later date.

LAST DATE FOR ORDERING

Early ordering enables us to plan our production more efficiently so please place
your order a minimum of 5 weeks before your requested date. Orders for
Chrysanthemums placed after March 17th and for Dahlia Mini Plants and Garden
Ready, after April 1st, can only be accepted on a “substitutes acceptable” basis
unless they are for our for our special collections.
We will make every effort to supply plants during the period requested but
delays may occur in periods of high demand.

Our Pot Tubers are available until late February but stock is limited so early ordering is advisable.

DELIVERY TIME

Please indicate clearly the delivery period required according to the facilities you have available. We do our best to supply within the period required and notified on the order acknowledgment sent by post. Please provide a valid email address or mobile number on your order, this will allow for delivery notifications at time of despatch. Would kindly ask that you also notify us of any periods that you are not able to take delivery-e.g. holiday dates.

CARRIAGE & PACKING

We are able to make delivery to all addresses with a UK postcode except Northern Ireland.

Standard Shipping (Tubers) – £7.95 per order sent via Royal Mail 48 hour service

Standard Shipping (Dahlia Mini Plants and Chrysanthemums) – £7.95 per order sent via Royal Mail 24 hour service.

Standard Shipping (Garden Ready Dahlias) – £10.00 per order sent via Royal Mail 24 hour service.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to send Tubers and Pot Grown Dahlias in the same delivery as young plants (Chrysanthemums and Dahlia Mini Plants). As such additional shipping charges will be applied at the checkout.

WORLDWIDE EXPORT including the EU

Due to the unprecedented home demand we are currently experiencing we are unable to take any export orders.

NORTHERN IRELAND

Unfortunately due to the Windsor Framework and the NIPHL scheme, we are
unable to send Dahlia or Chrysanthemums in any form to Northern Ireland.

COLLECTION OF ORDERS

Customers can collect their orders at our West Heddon or Ovington Nurseries with no C&P charge. We will advise you accordingly when plants are ready for collection.

All plants are rooted to order and because of this we need a minimum of 5 weeks’ notice of your requirements-particularly for specific varieties. However a selection of Chrysanthemum and Dahlias will be available in our plant sales area from mid-March and mid-April respectively.

DAHLIAS

All varieties have been thoroughly tested on the nurseries and they are offered with complete confidence.

Classification: The classification on Dahlias is based on the NDS Classified Directory 36th Edition. Some varieties of recent introduction have not yet been classified, so we have included them in what we consider to be the correct classification after trial on the nursery.

Dahlias are offered in 3 forms:

DAHLIA POT TUBERS: The tubers we offer are dahlias which have been grown for a full season in the confines of a 9cm pot, so that a small compact tuber is produced. They are ideal material for the exhibitor with a heated greenhouse or propagator to enable their own propagation. Tubers are available from DECEMBER to FEBRUARY. We strongly advise unpacking on arrival and if necessary store tubers in a cool frost free environment until required for setting away. A minimum of 50ºF (10ºC) is required for propagation, water sparingly until growth is evident. Should any tuber fail to have shown any signs of growth by the 31st of March then please contact us so we can aim to organise replacements as rooted cuttings. PLEASE NOTE- pot tubers cannot be despatched with Mini plants, Garden Ready Dahlias or Chrysanthemums due to differing availability times. Please submit separate orders.

DAHLIA MINI PLANTS: These are strong rooted cuttings for those customers who have the facilities for potting up and growing on under glass, minimum 50ºF (10ºC). Delivery is from late MARCH to MAY only. We will make every effort to supply during the week requested but orders must be in the office at least FIVE WEEKS BEFORE the order is required. Orders for other than our special collections must be received before 1st April. Beyond this date any orders received will be accepted on a ‘Substitutes Acceptable’ basis.

GARDEN READY DAHLIAS: For delivery to mainland UK only. Available early June only these are grown in a 8cm biodegradable wood pulp pot and are “garden ready”. They can safely be planted straight out into the garden after a couple of days acclimatising and as long as all risk of frost is over. We are unable to dispatch Garden Ready Dahlias with Chrysanthemums, Mini plants and Tubers so separate delivery is required. Orders for other than our special collections must be received before 1st April. Beyond this date any orders received will be accepted on a ‘Substitutes Acceptable’ basis.

Garden Ready Dahlias come at an addition cost of £3.50 per plant on Mini Plant prices and have a carriage and packing fee of £10 per order.

CHRYSANTHEMUMS

Prices quoted are for strong rooted cuttings which are ready for dispatch early February to Mid May. Plants will be supplied according to the facilities for protection from frost that the customer has available as follows:-

NO PROTECTION – not before end April in the South. Not before early May in the Midlands, North of England and in Scotland.

COLD GREENHOUSE or COLD FRAME. – Not before the beginning of April.

HEATED GREENHOUSE – Not before the middle of February.

Cuttings are taken to order – so please allow a minimum of 5 weeks to process your order.

Orders for other than our special collections must be received before 17th March. Beyond this date any orders received will be accepted on a ‘Substitutes Acceptable’ basis.

Your personal information will not be passed on to third parties. We will however retain you details for the purpose of communicating with you about your order and for our own marketing purposes. We will automatically send you a new season’s Main Catalogue for 3 years from the date of your last order with us.
